Sienna's trip to Olympia
Sienna has been undergoing treatment for cancer and has been unable to ride or barely go and see her pony for six months. Her sister Carys has been amazing and helped look after her pony for her, so their mum Kara asked if we could treat them both to a special day at Olympia, and of course Willberry and his team were delighted to help!
Sienna’s family and friends were treated to tickets for the evening performance on Saturday, and spent some time doing some serious retail shopping first, with Sienna’s little friend Blue-Berry helping to choose some goodies. Then Willberry had a surprise treat in store by arranging for them to go behind the scenes and meet some of the stars of the show – the girls were literally lost for words! After a fantastic evening performance of top level showjumping, spectacular displays and of course Father Christmas, Willberry’s Wish fairies topped off the day with an overnight stay in a London hotel afterwards where they could relive their amazing memories.
Our huge thanks go to Olympia for their support and generosity in helping make this wonderful wish come true.
Meet the researchers: Belle!
Willberry recently was very excited to catch up with Belle Creith who is one of his latest recruits to help him keep #kickingcancersbutt.
''I have recently started my PhD in Osteosarcoma research as a member of the Clarkin Lab - thanks to Wilberry’s #kickingcancersbutt funding.
Cancer has taken many lives that are incredibly dear to me and for that reason I have wanted to work in the field of cancer research for some time. My interest in bone biology was sparked by Dr Claire Clarkin, who I was lucky enough to be taught by and work for, as I completed my Bachelor’s degree here at the University of Southampton.
Since graduating in 2017, I have travelled around the world and had some of the most incredible experiences but my goal has always been to come back and complete a research project with Dr Clarkin. When I heard that we had received funding for this project I was overjoyed, and now I am back, ready to KICK CANCER’S BUTT.
My project aims to use a highly sensitive laser technique called Raman Spectroscopy to look for Osteosarcoma-specific characteristics at a molecular level, that may be targeted in both therapeutics and developing methods for early detection.
Osteosarcoma research specifically is of real importance to me as it predominantly affects children and young adults, who have only just started on life’s big adventure. Furthermore, the survival rate of patients is hugely decreased once the disease has spread and this really highlights the importance of early diagnosis.
Osteosarcoma definitely picked the wrong girl when it found Hannah, and I am proud to be a part of the team that is working on her legacy.''
Ekk, Willberry and his team are so proud to have you onboard Belle! Watch out osteosarcoma, we're coming for you..!!
